BIOGRAPHY OF THE LATE HON. MARGARET KATTY KRAMPA
Honorable Margaret Katty Krampa was born on Saturday May 6th 1950 to the late educationalist Fidelis Ekpe Komla Krampa-Tindi and Madam Mary Adzoa Krampa.
Margaret completed her Primary Education at Kpando Gabi RC Girls Primary School. She then proceeded to Kpando Tsakpe RC Middle Mix School which was headed by her father, the late Fidelis Ekpe Komla Krampa-Tindi. Margaret demonstrated remarkable academic excellence throughout her three years in middle school, consistently ranking among the top three students in her class. It was no surprise that she excelled in the common entrance examination in her third year and secured admission to OLA Senior High School for her secondary education.
After five years of secondary education, she earned her GCE Ordinary Level Certificate (O- Level) in 1969. Due to her outstanding performance, she was granted admission to pursue her six-form course at the same institution, which she completed in 1971.
In 1972, Margaret enrolled at the Specialist Training College in Winneba, now known as the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), to undertake a four-year diploma program in Home Economics. In 1976, after successfully obtaining her diploma, Hon. Margaret Katty Krampa embarked on her teaching career, quickly distinguishing herself as a dedicated and passionate educator. Her commitment to teaching and mentoring students was evident, as she consistently sought to enhance educational standards within her community.
Throughout the years, Margaret embraced various roles that showcased her leadership abilities. She became a beacon of hope for countless young individuals as she passionately championed the importance of education, particularly for girls in her community. Her initiatives included organizing workshops and seminars designed to empower both students and parents regarding the value of education.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to education and community development, Margaret was appointed to several educational boards and committees. She displayed a strong commitment to enacting policy changes that benefited students and ensured they had the necessary resources to excel academically.
Her dedication to her work did not go unnoticed, as she was honored with numerous awards for her service to education. Furthermore, Margaret's passion for community service extended beyond the classroom. she was actively engaged in various charitable organizations that focused on health, women's rights, and child welfare.
Margaret's journey embodies her belief in the transformative power of education as a catalyst for personal and societal change. Through her relentless commitment, she inspired countless individuals to pursue their dreams and strive for excellence. Her legacy continues to resonate across generations, serving as a reminder of the significance of perseverance, resilience, and the pursuit of knowledge.
After graduating from college in Winneba, Margaret joined the Ghana Education Service and was assigned to Kadjebi Senior High School as a Home Economics Teacher for two years. In 1978, she transferred to her alma mater, OLA Senior High School in Ho. At OLA, she devoted herself to the well welfare of her students, significantly contributing to their success in external examinations, particularly in Home Economics. Additionally, as a house mistress in several student houses, she played a crucial role in instilling discipline among the students.
In 1992, after twelve years of dedicated service at OLA Senior High School, Margaret transitioned to the Non-Formal Education Division of the Ministry of Education on secondment as the Kpando District Coordinator. For more than six years, she played a pivotal role in organizing programs and activities for adult learners within the district.
In 1999, Margaret enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program at the University of Education, Winneba. In 2002, she was reabsorbed into the Ghana Education Service and assigned to the Kpando District office, where she initially served as the District Welfare Officer. Through her exemplary performance, she advanced to the position of Assistant Director of Education, responsible for Administration and Finance. Her exceptional work at the district directorate led to her appointment as the acting Headmistress of Peki Senior High School when a vacancy arose. During her tenure, Margaret managed the school with remarkable effectiveness, earning the admiration of the chiefs and residents of the Peki Traditional Area. Consequently, the chiefs recommended to the regional educational authorities that she be appointed as the permanent Headmistress. Unfortunately, by the time their request reached the authorities in Accra, another candidate had already been assigned to the school.
In 2004, another opportunity presented itself for Margaret to lead a Senior High School, this time at Anfoega Senior High School, which coincidentally is her maternal home. With the support of her brother, PKK, who was then the Director of Public Relations at the Ministry of Education, along with the chiefs and residents of the Anfoega Traditional Area, she successfully transformed the school into one of the best in the Volta Region. It is no surprise that she was honored by the school’s board of governors, management, and staff, who named one of the houses in her honor. Hon. Katty Margaret Krampa retired as Deputy Director of Education and Headmistress of Anfoega Senior High School on May 6, 2010, after a long and dedicated service to education in Mother Ghana.
POLITICS
Hon. Katty Margaret Krampa was a dedicated member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), actively participating in the party's programs within the constituency. Her commitment and service led to her election as the Presiding Member of the Kpando Municipal Assembly, where she worked tirelessly for the development of the municipality. Due to her exemplary leadership, when a vacancy arose for the parliamentary position in the constituency, several assembly members rallied behind her to run for the NDC primaries as a parliamentary candidate for the Kpando Constituency. Unfortunately, she did not win the primaries. Nevertheless, her defeat did not diminish her enthusiasm for the party she cherished. Until her passing, she remained engaged in all initiatives organized by the NDC within the constituency.
WEST AFRICA EXAMINATION COUNCIL (WAEC)
Hon. Katty Margaret Krampa served as a Chief Examiner for Home Economics with the West Africa Examination Council for over two decades. Her extensive experience in WAEC marking activities allowed her to contribute significantly to the coordination of programs related to the assessment of Home Economics scripts in both Ghana and Nigeria.
SOCIAL LIFE
Hon. Katty Margaret Krampa was actively involved in numerous associations across the country, serving as the National President of the Past OLA Girls Association (POGA) for seven years. She also held the position of President of the Lions Club, Kpando Chapter, and was an Executive Member of the Ghana Home Economics Association (GHEA), participating in various conferences held nationwide.
Additionally, Hon. Katty Margaret Krampa was appointed by the then NDC government led by the late Professor John Evans Atta Mills to serve on the council of Ho Technical University. Due to her significant contributions to the university's development, she was re-nominated to serve on the council for two consecutive terms.
Known for her generosity and friendly nature, Hon. Katty Margaret Krampa provided financial assistance to several students, many of whom have since become professional teachers and nurses. Her extraordinary love for music and dance was evident as she became a patron of the Cosmos Musical Training School in Kpando and the St. Cecilia Choir of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kpando. It’s also worth noting that she never missed an opportunity to dance at gatherings featuring musical performances.
RELIGIOUS LIFE
Hon. Katty Margaret Krampa was a devoted Catholic who actively participated in church activities throughout her life, consistently attending Mass wherever she was. She served as a member of the Ho Diocesan Catholic Educational Advisory Committee, and in recognition of her significant contributions to educational development within the Catholic Diocese of Ho, she was honored in 2022 with a citation from Most Rev. Emmanuel Kofi Fianu, the Bishop of Ho, at the Grotto in Kpando Agbenorxoe. Additionally, Hon. Katty Margaret Krampa was a founding member of the Christian Mothers Association – Kpando Branch, a Catholic lay organization, and she served on numerous committees within the Catholic Church, further demonstrating her commitment to her faith and community.
In November 2023, Hon. Katty Margaret Krampa left Ghana to reunite with her family in the United States of America. Her arrival marked a joyful family reunion; however, her health began to deteriorate during her year-long stay in the United States. Despite the tireless efforts of her children, Mawuse and Clement, to support her recovery, she ultimately passed away on February 16, 2025, just two months shy of her 75th birthday.
Hon. Katty Margaret Krampa was blessed with two children, Freda Mawuse Alormele and Clement Dzidedi Kekessie, and two adopted daughters Genevieve Adams and Belinda Nanesah. Beloved Mother Katty Margaret Krampa, we love you dearly, but God loves you even more. Farewell, sweet mother, until we meet again on that glorious day, Hedenyee Dzudzor le Ntifafame!
